When the ear hears and the brain puzzles over it
Hearing and understanding are not the same thing: people with hearing loss struggle not only with quieter sounds, but also with distorted and incomplete signals. The brain has to work very hard to fill in the gaps. Simply amplifying sound with hearing aids is therefore often not enough. Neuroscientist Nathalie Giroud is conducting research at the University of Zurich and the University Psychiatric Hospital Zurich into how the brain processes and compensates for spoken language, and how it reaches its limits in doing so. Her findings open up new avenues for auditory training and show how the voice could even serve as an early warning sign for diseases in the future.Académie Suisse des Sciences Médicales ASSM

Projet de soins anticipé: page d’aide pour les professionnels de santé
Le projet de soins anticipé (ProSA) fournit un cadre pour discuter avec les patient.e.s des possibles décisions médicales à prendre dans le futur, documenter leurs choix et les respecter le moment venu. Avec l’Office fédéral de la santé publique (OFSP), l’ASSM s’emploie à établir davantage le ProSA en Suisse. Non seulement les spécialistes du domaine, mais tout.e professionnel.le de santé peut y contribuer en parlant avec ses patient.e.s des situations médicales à venir et en les accompagnant dans un processus de ProSA. L’ASSM vient de publier une nouvelle page web sur ce thème.
