Pandémies : améliorer la prévoyance et la gestion
Des conseillères et conseillers scientifiques et éthiques européens donnent leur avis sur la manière de prévenir et de gérer plus efficacement les maladies infectieuses émergentes. Leurs recommandations concernent entre autres l'amélioration de la coordination internationale, le renforcement des systèmes de planification et de gestion de la préparation ainsi que le maintien des droits fondamentaux et de la justice sociale en cas d'urgence sanitaire. Les recommandations portent également sur des questions systémiques, en particulier dans les domaines de la durabilité et de la justice sociale, et sont guidées par les valeurs européennes et le respect des droits fondamentaux.
L'avis a été préparé par le groupe indépendant de Chief Scientific Advisors de la Commission européenne, ensemble avec le European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies et Peter Piot, le conseiller spécial de la prési- dente de la Commission européenne sur les questions relatives au Covid-19.

‘We’re not making the most of this opportunity right now’: Claudia Röösli on Switzerland’s decision not to participate in Copernicus
The Federal Council has decided that Switzerland will not participate in the European Earth observation programme Copernicus during the 2028–2034 programme period either – despite repeated calls from Parliament and a recent study which concludes that the benefits of joining clearly outweigh the costs. Switzerland will therefore continue to use the freely available satellite data, but will remain excluded from participation in Copernicus services, tenders and committees. In an interview with the SATW, Dr Claudia Röösli, Head of the Earth Observation Applications and Services Group at the University of Zurich’s Remote Sensing Laboratories, analyses the decision. Understand, hack, change: 38 girls are taking the world of technology by storm
Their first week of the summer holidays in the lab rather than at the swimming pool: from 6 to 10 July, 38 girls from 13 cantons attended the Swiss TecLadies Camp in Brunnen and immersed themselves in the world of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and ethical hacking. The camp aims to inspire young women to pursue technical careers, whilst dispelling persistent prejudices.
