Mise au concours Prix de Quervain 2021
Le Prix de Quervain 2021 est mis au concours pour la recherche de haute altitude, c’est-à-dire pour des sujets qui concernent la haute montagne (par exemple la recherche sur la cryosphère ou la recherche environnementale y ayant recours) ou qui découlent nécessairement de ce domaine (par exemple l’étude de l’atmosphère dans la troposphère libre, la médecine de montagne, etc.). Pour participer à ce concours, les travaux (Master, PhD ou Post-Doc) des scientifiques de la relève auront eu terminé entre avril 2019 et avril 2021. Nous vous invitons à nous proposer jusqu’au 31 mai 2021, pour participation à ce concours, des travaux que des scientifiques de la relève. La remise du prix aura lieu à Berne, lors d’un symposium en novembre.
Par la présente, nous nous adressons aux instituts et organisations actifs dans la recherche de haute altitude et aux directrices et directeurs de thèses, de travaux de master ou de diplôme ou d’autres projets de recherche dont le sujet concerne la haute montagne ou découle nécessairement de ce domaine. ‘We’re not making the most of this opportunity right now’: Claudia Röösli on Switzerland’s decision not to participate in Copernicus
The Federal Council has decided that Switzerland will not participate in the European Earth observation programme Copernicus during the 2028–2034 programme period either – despite repeated calls from Parliament and a recent study which concludes that the benefits of joining clearly outweigh the costs. Switzerland will therefore continue to use the freely available satellite data, but will remain excluded from participation in Copernicus services, tenders and committees. In an interview with the SATW, Dr Claudia Röösli, Head of the Earth Observation Applications and Services Group at the University of Zurich’s Remote Sensing Laboratories, analyses the decision. Her conclusion: Switzerland is foregoing a say in the matter, economic potential and the development of expertise in a field of the future.Académie suisse des sciences techniques SATW

Understand, hack, change: 38 girls are taking the world of technology by storm
Their first week of the summer holidays in the lab rather than at the swimming pool: from 6 to 10 July, 38 girls from 13 cantons attended the Swiss TecLadies Camp in Brunnen and immersed themselves in the world of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and ethical hacking. The camp aims to inspire young women to pursue technical careers, whilst dispelling persistent prejudices.
